February 17, 2010 – On February 15, Hesen Ibrahîm Salih, Şahbaz Nezîr Umer and Siwar Şêxmûs were each awarded prison sentences by the single military judge in al‑Qamishli. Salih, a member of the politburo of the Kurdish Union Party in Syria (Yekîtî), was sentenced to one year imprisonment for membership of an illegal association pursuant to Article 288 as well as pursuant to Article 307 of the Criminal Code. The sentence was reduced to eight months due to mitigating circumstances.
