Al-Qamishli: Verdict against Welat and Eyûb Mihemed postponed – torture during pre-trial custody

March 10, 2010 – On March 9, 2010, the single military judge in al-Qamishli adjourned the case of Welat Eyûb Mihemed and Selah Eyûb Mihemed until April 27, 2010. Both men are charged pursuant to Articles 288 and 307 of the Criminal Code.
On December 20, 2009, Welat and Selah Eyûb Mihemed were released from custody in al-Qamishli by decision of the prosecution in Aleppo, where they had been in custody since December 1 and 2, 2009, respectively. Prior to this the brothers were detained in al-Hasakah central prison.
KurdWatch has information that Welat Eyûb Mihemed was tortured while in pre-trial custody in al-Hasakah. According to this information, he was forced into a tire and beaten (the so-called Dulab method), and with his hands and feet bound to sit on an adjustable metal chair that bends the spine backwards (the so-called »German chair«).
The verdict against the brothers is expected on April 17. More information on the case]
