Al‑Qamishli: Party representatives refused entry to Qudurbeg cemetery

March 13, 2010 – On March 12, 2010 in al‑Qamishli, members of the Syrian police prevented representatives of Kurdish parties from visiting the graves of victims of the March 2004 riots. The Kurdish Political Council, founded on December 30, 2009 and comprised of representatives of eight Kurdish parties, had called for a visit to the cemetery in the district of Qudurbeg to mark the sixth anniversary of the outbreak of the riots. Most of the victims are buried here. When Kurdish Political Council members and other individuals tried to enter the cemetery, they were denied access. A speech was subsequently held at the entrance to the cemetery.
Syrian police also restrained citizens from entering the cemetery in al‑Malikiyah (Dêrik).
