Human-rights violations since 2009

Arrests
A total of 209 of the arrests occurred in 2009, a total of 137 in 2010, a total of 200 in 2011 and thus far 10 in 2012.

Convictions
A total of 69 of the convictions occurred in 2009, a total of 46 in 2010, a total of  15 in 2011 and thus far 5 in 2012. Some of those convicted were arrested during the previous year.
In 2009 a total of 60 of those convicted were accused of having connections to a political party. Members and sympathizers of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) (41 cases), the Kurdish Freedom Party in Syria (Azadî) (6 cases), Dr. ʿAbdulhakim Bashar's Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (el-Partî) (4 cases), and the Kurdish Union Party in Syria (Yekîtî) (3 cases) were most frequently convicted.
In 2010 a total of 28 of those convicted were accused of having connections to a political party. Members and sympathizers of the Yekîtî (7 cases) and the PYD (7 cases) were most frequently convicted.
The charges and convictions registered since 2009 primarily invoke Article 288 of the Criminal Code (88 cases), Article 307 of the Criminal Code (90 cases), Article 336 of the Criminal Code (40 cases) and Article 267 of the Criminal Code (18 cases).

Torture
Since 2009 48 of those tortured have been sympathizers or members of political parties. 37 cases concerned people with connections to the PYD, 5 cases concerned people with connections to the Dr. ʿAbdulhakim Bashar's Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (el-Partî), 3 cases concerned a person with connections to the Kurdish Union Party in Syria (Yekîtî), one case concerned a person with connections to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Concord Party (Rêkeftin), one case concerned a person with connections to the Kurdish Freedom Party in Syria (Azadî), and 2 cases concerned a person with connections to the Kurdish Future Movement in Syria.

Fatalities
Soldiers killed in combat do not appear in the statistics.
